RED RAINBOWFISH 7-8CM Red Rainbowfish, like many others of their kind, are originally from a single lake in the wild. Lake Sentani in Northern Papua is approximately 17 miles long and 12 miles wide, where these fish prefer the shoreline shallows, especially when they are young. They thrive in habitats rich in aquatic plants and overhanging vegetation, being most active during the cooler parts of the day. Typically, males can be found in the shallows while females tend to spend more time in deeper waters. This species is known for being peaceful and ideal for a community aquarium with plants. It is recommended to keep them in groups of 6 or more, and due to their active nature and large size, the aquarium should be at least 4ft long to provide enough swimming space. While young Red Rainbowfish may not look as vibrant as the adults, they will gradually develop their stunning colors once they settle into the planted tank. The males, in particular, will showcase a dazzling appearance, with the dominant male exhibiting the most vibrant colors. The intensity of their colors can vary, often becoming deeper at higher temperatures. Despite their size, adult Red Rainbowfish are not a threat to smaller tankmates as their mouths are too narrow to swallow them.
