Jakarta Rainbow fish This smaller fish flourishes in soft, acidic environments but has adapted to neutral water conditions, much like other Melanotaenia species from the Bird’s Head Peninsula or the Paracheirodon species found in South America. As a rainbowfish, Melanotaenia jakora eagerly consumes flake foods, micro pellets, frozen bloodworms, and brine shrimp, along with various live microcrustaceans. Similar to other rainbowfish, providing adequate and high-quality feed will prepare mature fish to spawn and lay eggs on plants, in mosses, and in spawning mops, with eggs hatching in 7-14 days if proper incubation methods are followed. Reaching a size of 2.5-3″ in captivity, this species thrives in tanks shorter than 3ft and displays a stunning array of colors when well cared for, showcasing iridescent blues and electric whites over a grey-pink base, with subtle pink hints in the tail.
