Strawberry Leporinus Granti 13-15CM undoubtedly belongs to a group of Leporinus that is closely related to or possibly identical to Leporinus granti, a species currently known only from the Guianas. In older aquarium literature, it is also referred to as Leporinus “maculatus.” The good news is that no species in this group is known to exceed 15 to 20 cm in size, with most remaining even smaller. From an aquarist’s perspective, it’s encouraging that L. granti (or a very close relative) is the only Leporinus species that has been successfully bred in aquariums to date. These fish are egg scatterers and do not provide any parental care for their offspring. Like all Leporinus, L. sp. “Strawberry” is primarily herbivorous and exhibits a strong pecking order. This makes it much easier to house two fish of different sizes together rather than those of the same size. When they are of different sizes, the dominant fish is clear, reducing the likelihood of conflict. However, when fish are of equal size, they tend to engage in daily battles to establish dominance, which can lead to damaged fins. Picture is of the stock in the shop, All Size are approx
