Dubois’s Tropheus 4-5CM Tropheus duboisi inhabit the rocky environments of Lake Tanganyika, often found in slightly deeper waters compared to their relatives and typically in smaller groups. It is advisable to keep Tropheus in large groups of their own species to help distribute aggression. Maintaining a group of 15 or more of these spirited fish necessitates a spacious aquarium, ideally 1.5 meters or longer, to allow individuals to avoid each other. Smaller groups tend to diminish as harassment and bullying can be overwhelming for the females and weaker males. To prevent aggression directed at newcomers, it is crucial to introduce the entire group simultaneously. When adding a significant number of fish this way, ensure that the filtration system is cycled and capable of managing the waste produced. Given the investment required, using a mature filter and bacterial inoculation with products like Microbe Lift is highly recommended. As always, closely monitor water quality during the initial weeks. Excellent water quality must be upheld consistently, with partial water changes performed at least once or twice weekly, which may necessitate the addition of buffers to maintain the high pH and carbonate hardness levels needed. Strong water movement will promote high oxygen levels, keeping the fish healthy and active. While Tropheus can thrive in relatively bare aquariums, it is beneficial to create several separate rock piles (rather than a continuous rocky reef) to help individuals evade one another more easily due to broken sight lines. Bright lighting should be used to stimulate algae growth on the decor, which these herbivores will enjoy grazing on. Avoid using sharp rocks (like lava rock) as they can injure the mouths of these fish while they feed. In addition to their tendency to harm each other, which is best managed by keeping them in large groups, diet is another crucial aspect of their successful care. These fish are particularly susceptible to bloating. Picture is of the fish in stock, if require any more please get in touch all sizes are approx
