It is advisable to keep Tropheus in large groups of their own species to help distribute aggression. Maintaining a group of 15 or more of these spirited fish necessitates a spacious aquarium, ideally 1.5 meters or longer, to allow individuals to avoid each other. Smaller groups tend to diminish as harassment and bullying can be overwhelming for the females and weaker males. To prevent aggression directed at newcomers, it is crucial to introduce the entire group simultaneously. When adding a significant number of fish this way, ensure that the filtration system is cycled and capable of managing the waste produced. As always, closely monitor water quality during the initial weeks.
