One of EastEnders notorious villains is set to return in 2021.
Janine was last seen on the square seven years ago in a scene where she was boarding a train that was heading for Paris to join her daughter Scarlett and her sister Diane.
According to a source, she is going to be part of a huge story that is going to air later this year.
An EastEnders insider told The Sun: “Bosses have a huge story planned for Charlie’s return.
They are keeping tight-lipped about whether Janine will come back as a reformed character after all the chaos she has caused in the past.
“But she certainly has a lot of history in Albert Square so whether she will be welcomed back with open arms or not remains to be seen.
“One thing the viewers can be sure about is that it is bound to be explosive. Wherever Janine goes, drama is never far behind. The potential for Janine is huge. She has enemies all around the Square who she’d gladly go to war with, and she’s shown before she isn’t afraid to kill to get her way.
“It could have huge repercussions for some of the big names in EastEnders…She’s not going to come back and play nice.”
Charlie Brooks who plays Janine hasn’t confirmed if the rumours of her returning are true.
It’s safe to say Janine Butcher has a lot of history on EastEnders, which dates right back to when she first appeared on the show in 1999.
One of her most famous scenes was when she pushed her husband Barry Evans (played by Shaun Williamson) off a hill, which resulted in him dying.
This wasn’t the first time the villain killed one of her husbands, as she killed her fourth husband Michael Moon, but managed to be found not guilty for the murder in court.
She also attempted to kill her second husband Ryan Malloy (played by Neil McDermott) and tried to frame Stacey Slater for the attempted murder.
However, murder and attempted murder are not all of Janine’s crimes, as throughout her whole time on the soap she’s always had her scheming ways. Back when she returned in 2008 she tried to marry an elderly man in order to have access to his money, although, this didn’t go to plan as he dropped down dead before they got to say ‘I do’.
But she didn’t stop there as she then tried to con Archie Mitchell (played by Larry Lamb) back in 2009, however, this didn’t go too well when he found out.
EastEnders have refused to confirm whether or not Janine Butcher will be returning to the square.
