Spotted Skiffia 2-3CM (Skiffia multipunctata) In their natural habitat, Spotted Skiffia can be found in ditches, calm river channels, small lakes, and ponds that are fed by springs. The bottom is typically made up of a blend of mud, sand, silt, and rocks. These fish generally favor shallow waters, reaching depths of up to 1 meter. The plant life includes species like Lemna (duckweed), Typha (bulrush), and water hyacinths, along with an abundance of green algae. Some environments are rich in roots from Taxodium (flood-tolerant conifers), which offer excellent hiding spots and grazing opportunities for aufwuchs. An aquarium for them should be well-established and properly filtered, featuring plenty of shaded areas created by aquatic plants and decorations such as small pieces of driftwood or slender Sumatra wood, both of which can effectively mimic the intricate network of tree roots found in their natural surroundings. S. multipunctata is generally a peaceful species, but it may nip at the fins of long-finned fish. They thrive best in a species-specific tank, ideally with two or more females for every male; this setup helps to lessen the attention any single female receives from the eager males and increases the likelihood of successfully raising more fry.
