Convict Cichlid 5-6CM The convict cichlid is a type of fish in the Cichlidae family, found in Central America, and is also called the zebra cichlid. Known scientifically as Amatitlania nigrofasciata, these small fish are very aggressive and territorial in freshwater environments. They like to dig, so it’s best to use sandy substrate and provide lots of hiding spots like caves, driftwood, and aquatic plants. Convict cichlids live in lakes and streams with a moderate flow of water. Their natural surroundings have plenty of wood and rocks for hiding while they feed. They eat both plants and animals.
