Nannacara Anomala – Golden Eye Cichlid 4-5CM Nannacara anomala is a small, gentle species that thrives in softwater community aquariums. In their natural habitat, they inhabit flooded savannahs in low-lying coastal areas, so they prefer a home setup that includes plenty of plants, driftwood, and small caves. Ideal tankmates are other small, peaceful fish, especially those that swim higher in the tank, like smaller characins or rasboras. While they are generally calm, N. anomala can become quite territorial during breeding, so it’s best to avoid slow-moving species that dwell in the lower parts of the tank. Ideally, keep one male with several females; multiple males should only be housed together in a very spacious tank with plenty of visual barriers. In larger setups, the dominant male will grow larger and display more vibrant colors, while the subdominant male may take on a female appearance to avoid conflict. If the dominant male is removed, the subdominant male will then become the alpha. Filtration should be effective, but the water flow should be gentle. While wild-caught specimens can occasionally be found, most N. anomala available in the market are captive bred, primarily in Europe or Singapore.
