Drape Fin Barb 2.5-3CM The Draped Fin Barb is a shy and timid species that thrives best when kept in groups of eight or more within a well-planted, mature softwater aquarium. This delicate fish can be quite sensitive during shipping, so it’s important to ensure that any you plan to purchase are fully rested and healthy. The aquarium should feature a soft sand substrate to protect the tiny, delicate sensory barbels located under their jaws; these fish typically spend most of their time in the lower third of the tank, often foraging for food on the bottom. Be sure to include plenty of driftwood and a rich variety of plants (including floating types) to create numerous shady hiding spots and visual barriers. The more retreats you provide for these shy little cyprinids, the more you will observe them displaying their natural behaviors. Once they settle in, their colors become much more vibrant, taking on a glowing yellow hue, especially in the striking dorsal fin of the males. Occasionally, male fish may squabble among themselves, but as long as there are ample hiding spots for them to retreat to, no significant harm should occur. Tankmates should also be small and peaceful; suitable options include Kuhli Loaches (Pangio species), Badis or Dario spp., Honey/Croaking/Dwarf Gouramis, small Rasbora, Trigonostigma, or Boraras species.
