This species hails from the Rio Branco drainage, particularly the Takutu River near Guyana, where they typically inhabit areas around submerged trees and large clusters of driftwood. Similar to its relatives, it thrives on a diet of wood (xylivore) and should be given plenty of driftwood along with other nutritious sinking foods in an aquarium setting.
