L106 Orange Seam Pleco 5-6CM The Spotted Orange Seam Plec is exclusively found in the Rio Orinoco drainage in Venezuela. In this region, these suckermouth catfish thrive in fast-moving, well-oxygenated waters over rocky substrates that offer numerous dark hiding spots. The aquarium should be well-established, featuring a soft sand or fine rounded gravel substrate along with various smooth rocks and bogwood arranged to create plenty of shady caves and crevices. Since plants are not abundant in their natural habitat, they can be left out of the aquascape; however, including a few hardy plants that can withstand the current will enhance the aquarium’s visual appeal and improve water quality. It’s important to maintain brisk water movement and high oxygen levels, possibly supplemented by powerheads in addition to the current from the filtration system. Regular small partial water changes will help keep nitrate levels low, as these fish are quite sensitive to the accumulation of nitrogenous waste. Generally, the Spotted Orange Seam Plec is peaceful, but it may exhibit slight territorial behavior towards its own species if not provided with sufficient space. However, they can usually be kept in small groups as long as there is enough room and hiding spots available. Suitable tankmates include small to medium-sized peaceful shoaling fish that inhabit the mid to upper levels of the water column and thrive in warm, fast-flowing conditions.
