Spotted Rasbora 1-2CM (Boraras Maculatus) The Spotted Rasbora is found in calm rainforest streams that have slow-moving, soft, acidic water and thick vegetation along the edges. These fish are perfect for small, densely planted softwater tanks. It’s important that the tank is well-established and has plenty of hiding spots among driftwood and lush plants, including floating varieties to soften the light. Filtration should be effective, but the water flow should be gentle. These peaceful shoaling fish can be a bit shy, so having a good-sized group of 12 or more will help them feel more at ease. A larger group will also create a more natural-looking shoal, with males showing off their vibrant colors as they vie for the attention of females. If you want tankmates, they should also be small and peaceful; suitable options include small Caridina and Neocaridina shrimp, Kuhli loaches (Pangio spp.), Otocinclus catfish, pygmy Corydoras spp., Eirmotus octozona, Trigonostigma spp., and Blue Eyes (Pseudomugil spp.). It’s crucial to monitor water quality closely since Spotted Rasboras are quite sensitive and can’t handle high nitrates or fluctuations in water chemistry. Be sure to acclimate them very carefully. This species looks quite similar to its relatives B. micros and B. naevus, but there are many subtle differences in their shape. You might also find them sold as Dwarf Rasbora or Pygmy Rasbora.
