Asian Rummy Nose 2-3cm Despite its common name, the Asian Rummynose is not scientifically related to the South American Rummynose Tetra or True Rummynose Tetra. The Asian Rummynose actually belongs to the Cyprinidae family and is more closely related to Barbs than Tetra or Rasbora. It’s best for hobbyists to keep this species in groups of at least 6 individuals, with 10 or more being even better. This is because the Asian Rummynose is a schooling species that relies on a group for security and proper socialization. Social interactions occur between males and females, as well as males competing for female attention. Those keeping smaller groups should have more females to prevent aggression, while larger schools (20 or more) shouldn’t have socialization issues. For a suitable aquarium setup for Asian Rummynose, make sure there is plenty of vegetation, shaded areas, and low to moderate water flow. The tank should be planted with ground cover, mid-level plants, and driftwood to provide hiding spots for the fish to feel secure and comfortable.
