Kanye West gets emotional about Louise Wilson’s death during an interview for BBC Radio 1.
On Thursday 26th February Kanye West did an exclusive interview with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe. Throughout, Kanye discussed his life as a celebrity and his future aspirations. Later on, Louise Wilson was brought up in the conversation, causing Kanye to cry, which forced him to leave the interview room for a few minutes.
Kanye referred to her as “the greatest fashion instructor of all time”.
He then went on to discuss the last time he met with her: “We had dinner at Hakkasan, and I think she knew she was going to pass, she just wanted to give me some words of advise and asked about my daughter and my wife. I didn’t know we was going to lose her, she said thank you for the times where we came to performances and this really meant a lot to me.”
Louise Wilson passed away at the age of 52, whilst she slept on the 16th May 2014. She was visiting her sister in Scotland at the time of her death. Wilson was best known for being a legendary professor at Central Saint Martin, in London. She was also given an OBE in 2008, and helped Stella McCartney, Christopher Kane and Alexandra McQueen with their careers in the fashion industry.
After consoling himself, Kanye re-entered the interview, stating: “That’s never happened to me in an interview before.”
Shortly after that Zane changed the subject to Kanye believing he was going to be the head of the worlds first trillion dollar company.
However, the conversation at the beginning of the interview was mainly Kanye discussing his life as a celebrity, and how he is never allowed to get involved with the products being made, proclaiming that he’s only allowed to promote them.
At one point he states: “I’m giving examples of work that I did that was really successful, but I’m just getting shutdown. Every single company you can imagine is just like no you’re celebrity, you are not allowed to create, to think or have an opinion. You’re just here to wear a red leather jacket and shut up.”
Kanye later went on to discuss his music and what his new record is like. Including what we can look forward to with his music career: “ We’re being inventive and this new albums coming out of a fight to want to design. I mean it’s still the struggle, but the beauty from the struggle. Like the song ‘Amazing Grace’, coming out of the worst pain possible and making the most beautiful song.”
